The Women’s Organisation for Progress and Development of Guinduilman (WOPD) has introduced a proposal for continuing the first phase of a project started in 2007. Moving towards its vision 2010 is the guiding tool of WOPD. Vision 2010 means “Strong and independent (self-managing and self-sustaining) member-based federation of local women organisations in Guindulman. WOPD aims to be an active and assertive voluntary organisation, in which the members are committed to achieve common goals i.e. progress and development of Guindulman rural populations, especially women. It will consolidate or even grow by 2010.”
The general objective of the submitted project is to continue the services of WOPD through income generating projects, fund raising and capability building training to further strengthen the organisation towards self management . (...less...) |

As WOPD reports itself: “The striking output for this year’s activity was that the federation has withstood the acid test. The 6 members of the board exerted their efforts despite limitations to push through the scheduled year activities with 3 board members on leave due to health, familial and maternity reasons”.
Despite these problems, the planned activities were mostly implemented as planned and the 2008 project showed generally good results. Two new local organizations were accepted (now totaling 14), and three new local organizations have made a request for membership, which proves that the federation had established its name. The General Assembly decided to increase the WOPD share from the net income of the Local Organization Livelihood projects from 1% to 5% to become more financially independent. Trainings on bookkeeping, internet, and leadership are conducted. The water project implementation was slightly delayed, but preparatory steps were done.

The project proposal is a continuation of project 07fw-4857 “Consolidation and Expansion of WOPD and Local Organisations through Capability Building Activities and Livelihood Projects”. It is also a continuation of activities within the framework of “Vision 2010”, which is the guiding tool of WOPD. This vision embraces a “Strong and independent (self-managing and self-sustaining) member-based federation of local women organisations in Guindulman. It aims to be an active and assertive voluntary organization in which the members are committed to achieve common goals i.e. progress and development of Guindulman rural population, especially women.”
1. WOPD is in a process of internal organisational strengthening and in the mean time enlarging its federation with new aspiring members. The goal for 2008 is to increase the federation by two new local organisations.
2. Objectives are to increase skills and knowledge of staff concerning documentation, bookkeeping, computer operation, internet, management of the WOPD income generating activity and in professionalising the work in general.
A workshop is planned to improve public speaking and English speaking skills, advocacy and lobbying and to learn how to be a cooperative including principles and strategy of organising.
Another objective is to improve the management of the WOPD eatery.
It is also planned to start the implementation of a water project and to make a newsletter for external communication.
Furthermore there will be monthly assistance to the local member organisations in implementation of projects.
Budget is used for trainings and seminars for local member organisations; for pre-membership education; for monthly meeting with local organisations; for management of day to day activities in the eatery and for lobbying, networking and advocacy.
3. The total project costs are €70.075,10 of which €24.736,10 (plus 25% totals €30.920,13) is requested for Agriterra. The proponent’s counterpart consists of €6.777,50 and other sources cover €38.561,50.
4. The level of improvement in professional skills is hard to measure, but general improvements in professional work methods should be observed (e.g. in profiling). Specific skills, such as English, can be proven by certificates and other skills, such as computer operation skills, by output (web page, financial reviews).
WOPD will assist its member local organisations during monthly meetings and assemblies and will have regular follow up in the implementation of the local organisation's projects.
ZijActief will have a prominent role in monitoring various projects and technical assistance.
5. Better professional skills of staff members will be spread to local organisations. Local organisations are closely guided during their implementation of projects. |
