1. Project background and rationale: AMRU a rural womens organization in Uruguay with about 2000 individual members is supported by Agriterra since 2003 with the main objective to support AMRU in becoming a strong and independent rural womens organization. AMRUs main objetives are to become sustainable and autonomous; to be able to prepare project proposals benefiting rural women and attract funding; and decentralization of AMRU in varios departments. This proposal is based upon the strategic plan 2008-2010 which was prepared by AMRU in 2007, supported by Agriterra.

Objectives:
1- Become institutionally and financially independent
2- Generate project proposals aiming at local level interventions benefiting rural women
3- consolidate and expand decentralized activities in line with the national development proces

Expected results:
1. - More members and more income (and diversified income) realized through membership contributions, commercial service provision to members and third parties; enhanced income for AMRU through realization of various projects; etc.
Strengthening of AMRU staff through capacity building/technical training and improved infrastucture/equipments.
2. Institutional promotion of AMRU through PR, communication; leadership trainings; participation in national and international level activities ; establish new alliances at various levels (themes: agriculture and gender)
3. Decentralization process to be further expanded with better staff; better infrastructure; identification and consolidation of enterprises; replicate the model to other departments (currently 2 departments and it is expected to expand to 8 departments in total).

3. budget (in Euros)

2008
AMRU 10.620 (18%)
Agriterra 40.000 (70%)
Others 6.850 (12%)
Total 57.470 (100%)

2009:
Agriterra: 30.000

2010:
Agriterra: 20.000

Budget for 2009 and 2010 still to be further worked out by AMRU, but AGriterra contribution has been determined already in collaboration agreement.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation: AMRU has developed a logframe for 2 years with clearly described and measurable indicators per activity. As AMRU concentrates much on quality of the work and therefore does not want to expand rapidly the membership the staff is capable of conducting regular monitoring of activities. Staff is competent and dedicated. One of the activities is capacity of staff in the field of monitoring and registration of activities.

5. sustainability: If AMRU is able to achieve the said goals it means that the organization is gradually becoming more financially autonomous. However it is not clear now how much tie AMRU will need to be fully self sustained. This may not happen in this 3 yeasr time span, but the financial dependency upon Agriterra is reducing gradually and "forcing" AMRU to look for alternate sources of funding especially generating its own income.
