| This project is a special services projects in the framework of ESFIM “Empowering Smallholders Farmers in Markets," based on an initiative of the Federated Agricultural Cooperatives (CAF). The contents of this project are the result of a consultation process at national level including: Discussion and conclusion of the workshop Access to markets for small producers, held in Montevideo, Uruguay on 11 and 12 March 2009; Agreements from the coordination meeting of ESFIM held on March 13; Contributions and suggestions have arisen from consultation with leaders and representatives of producer organizations involved. The special services project consists of contracting a consultant who will coordinate and carry out participatory research on three factors categorized as critical by the Uruguayan cooperatives, specifically related to access to the market for small scale farmers. These factors are: funding, capitalization, and commitment/loyalty of the cooperatives’ members. Activities planned: - to integrate the phase I of ESFIM with the conclusion of the workshop in Montevideo in one document; - follow up, supervision and advise to a primary research carried out by a student of Wageningen University-The Netherlands; - Coordination of activities with the technical team of CAF and with an ECART consultant in order to prepare and carry out a seminar in December 2009. - Facilitation of the seminar - Systematisation of the information resulting from the seminar - Write down a final report with conclusion of both the phase I and II workshop with perspective to the third ESFIM phase. - The consultant will start the activities at the first of November 2009 and will finish at the 31st December 2009. The total budget for this project is €5.918. €2.058 will be the own contribution of CAF and €3.860 are requested from Agriterra. The contribution of CAF consists on technical support and coordination. |
